Check the engine update as well as the facelift
BMW’s September 2014 announcement describes new 518d and 520d diesel engines with 110 kW and 140 kW respectively, each 5 kW above its predecessor. This update sits within the F10 LCI period: the facelift label alone cannot establish the diesel specification.
- For an advert around the update period, request the original build specification and documented power. Do not assign the newer engine solely from a registration date or the LCI label.
- Confirm Sedan versus Touring and rear-wheel drive versus xDrive before comparing figures. The announcement covers several body and drive combinations, not one universal 520d specification.
- Match the transmission and tyre specification before using published consumption. BMW gives different ranges for these configurations; a brochure’s lowest figure is not a measured result for the advertised car.
