Displayed range is not a battery-health measurement
The European Model 3 manual for 2017–2023 explains that displayed remaining range uses rated consumption and may differ from actual driving conditions. It directs owners to the Energy app for estimates informed by recent energy use. A range screenshot alone does not establish battery condition.
- Confirm the vehicle’s model year, market and documented variant before comparing advertised range. Keep EPA and WLTP figures separate, and do not compare either directly with a partially charged car’s dashboard estimate.
- When reviewing a range screenshot, ask for the charge percentage and whether it shows rated range or a trip estimate. Temperature, route and recent energy consumption affect practical range.
- Assess battery condition using applicable vehicle diagnostics or an inspection, with the test method and date stated. This guide does not assume that every older Model 3 has the battery-test features described in newer manuals.
