WMI (1–3) World Manufacturer Identifier, Audi uses WAU · WA1 · WUA · TRU.
VDS (4–9) manufacturer-defined vehicle description. Position 9 is a check digit in North American formats; other formats may use it differently.
Position 10 a model-year code in North American and some other formats. It must not be read as a year for every Audi VIN.
Position 11 often a plant code, interpreted using the matching manufacturer format.
Serial (12–17) the unique production sequence number.

Our decoder reads positions 7–8 only when the supported European VIN has ZZZ in positions 4–6. The Typ code can narrow the model and chassis generation. It does not by itself identify the engine, gearbox or factory option package.

Compare the body and generation

Audi model families may include saloon, Avant and Cabriolet versions. Some Typ mappings cover more than one generation, including the A4 B6/B7 family. Use the body, year and documents to distinguish the car before choosing a catalog variant.

Treat recall results as campaigns to check

A campaign for an Audi model can apply to only certain engines or production dates. The model-level results here do not show whether your VIN is included or whether a repair has already been completed. Confirm that with Audi or an authorised repairer.

Our supported Typ code may narrow a family and generation, while the catalog still contains several engines, transmissions and bodies. Match all three before using a row; an S line description alone does not identify an S or RS powertrain.
