VDS (4–9) manufacturer-defined vehicle description. Position 9 is a check digit in North American formats; other formats may use it differently.
Position 10 a model-year code in North American and some other formats. It must not be read as a year for every Hyundai VIN.
Position 11 often a plant code, interpreted using the matching manufacturer format.
Serial (12–17) the unique production sequence number.
