Look up a Dutch registration number
Use the Dutch registration number for RDW vehicle details, APK inspection dates and the odometer assessment where supplied. The assessment is a judgment about the available readings, not a complete dated mileage history. An unavailable judgment does not establish that the odometer is correct.
Norway plate lookup is currently unavailable here. Use the official Statens vegvesen check.
Read a Dutch kenteken result without overstating the mileage
The public RDW lookup here provides registration and technical fields, APK dates and the odometer assessment when returned. It does not expose the full owner-only vehicle report.

Compare the registration record
Match the kenteken, make and vehicle description to the car and documents. Use RDW Kentekencheck as the original public reference, especially when a seller’s description differs.
RDW advice for used-car buyers -
Interpret the odometer assessment
Logisch means the recorded sequence increases. Onlogisch flags an inconsistent sequence. Geen oordeel means RDW cannot give a judgment, which can happen with imports or a replaced odometer. It is not an all-clear.
RDW explains its odometer judgments -
Separate a public check from the owner’s report
The registered owner can request an RDW vehicle report with more information, including recorded readings and available APK history. Ask the seller to obtain it through RDW; our public plate lookup is not that report.

First admission and first Dutch registration can differ
A later first-registration date in the Netherlands can reflect an import. Read each date’s label instead of treating both as the manufacture date. Missing foreign history cannot be filled in by a Dutch odometer assessment.

Why check a VIN when buying from Netherlands?
A car registered in Netherlands may have been manufactured for another market or imported earlier. Compare the identification number on the vehicle with kentekenbewijs and the advert. A manufacturer or model mismatch needs investigation; a matching decode does not authenticate the car, prove its mileage or rule out damage.
The “voertuigidentificatienummer (VIN)” on a Dutch car
voertuigidentificatienummer (VIN)
Use the full identification number from the vehicle’s documents. This decoder supports the modern 17-character VIN format, not every historical chassis number.
Vehicle markings
Common modern locations include the windscreen base and a door-jamb label. Check the owner’s manual for the location on this model and compare the markings with the paperwork.
Registration document
It's printed in field E of the kentekenbewijs (the EU-harmonised registration certificate).
Read the manufacturer’s format, not the registration country
A modern VIN has 17 characters. The first three form the WMI; the remaining positions follow manufacturer and market rules. Position 10 is a year in some formats, but not all European VINs. The WMI does not identify the country where a car was last registered. See the decoding rules and limits.
What the free check shows, and what it doesn't
The free Dutch plate lookup can include the RDW odometer assessment and inspection dates. It is not a complete mileage timeline, accident record or theft check. A paid provider may have additional records, depending on the vehicle and market.
